Our Ingredients

Sweet almond oil is a commonly used carrier oil. It is a fabulous emollient for all skin types. Its vitamins and minerals conditions and smoothes the skin.

Tocopherol (vitamin E) is an excellent anti-oxidant for the skin and prevents rancidity in the cream base. The Vitamin E we use is vacuum distilled from vegetable fats.

Shea butter comes from the Karate Nut tree also called the Mangifolia tea tree and commonly called the tree of life because every part of the tree is utilized. It takes the tree 20 years to mature to produce the nut that the shea butter comes from. The tree grows only in Africa; Europeans tried to grow this tree in Europe without success. The industry of extracting the shea butter is predominantly a female industry.

Beeswax & Honey are produced by bees which we are losing in the US and importing from Australia. Our honey comes from Savannah Bee Company in Savannah, Georgia.

Dehydroxanthan Gum is a modified corn starch.

Xanthan Gum is a natural gum of high molecular weight produced by culture fermentation of glucose and used as a stabilizer.

Essential Oils

In Italy basil is a sign of love and romance. Basil refreshes the skin and guards against acne.

Calendula has been name herb of the year for 2008 by the International Herb Association. My appreciation of marigold or calendula began in India; its beautiful petals were everywhere. Its uses vary from guarding tomato plants, dying fabric to an antioxidant.

Bergamot resembles a sour orange. The peel of bergamot (not to be confused with bergamot/bee balm plant) is widely used in aromatherapy, treating depression and in Earl Grey tea.

Geranium is one of my favorite plants. It is known for balancing of oily and dry skin; another common use is to ward off menopausal and premenstrual syndrome.

 First domesticated in approximately 600 BC, lavender has been used for bathing, cooking and scenting the air. It has a long tradition in both medicinal use and in skin and hair care, but lavender is also known for its ability to balance a person’s mood while also clearing his or her mind. Lavender will rejuvenate those who are tired and soothe those who are stressed or tense.

Lemon oil is used for a variety of remedies, from varicose veins to wrinkles.

Litsea comes from the cubeba plant in Java. It is known to be an antibiotic, tissue toning, antiseptic and antidepressant. It has a lovely smell and is frequently used in perfumes.

The orange tree was brought by the Franciscan monks to the west coast of the US where it was used for oily skin, colds, anxiety to eliminating toxins. The orange tree is a symbol of good luck and prosperity in Chinese tradition.

Rose Geranium oil, like rose oil, is known to decrease signs of aging on the skin.

Rose oil is known to reduce wrinkles and is one of the most expensive oils on the planet. “Fresh flowers are picked before 8 A.M.  Rosa comes from the Greek roden, meaning “red,” as the ancient rose was thought to have been crimson.  In myth, the rose was supposed to have sprung from the blood of Adonis (some accounts say Venus).  Although the oil is obliquely referred to in the ancient Indian Ayruvedas and is mentioned by Homer in the Iliad, the first known raised oil distilleries existed in the year 1612 in Shiraz, part of Persia.  It takes about 10,000 pounds of flowers to make 1 pound of rose oil.” Source: mountainroseherbs.com

Rose water is a byproduct of rose oil.

Australia is the largest producer of tea tree oil. The oils are extracted from the leaves and twigs by steam distillation. It is most commonly used as an antiseptic.

Our Preservatives and Emulsifiers

Potassium sorbate is a fatty acid with anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties found in mountain laurel (that heralds spring in North Georgia).

Lecithin is from soybeans and acts as an emulsifier, thickening agent, and mild preservative.

Citric acid is a natural preservative made from fermentation of fruit sugars.

By choosing SFI- certified printers and paper, we are using our buying power to improve forest management while sending a clear message that we support sustainable and legal forest practices.

While recovered fiber is an attractive choice, it usually only makes up a small percentage of any paper product. An SFI label completes the equation by confirming the rest of the wood fiber is from a responsible source.

The SFI program has the support of numerous conservation groups including NatureServe, The Conservation Fund and Conservation International. They work with conservation groups to provide real, tangible benefits on forests across North America.
